7 Quick Takes: January 27, 2012 (Vol. 65)

What? Is this winter break?? I think not! Monday was a snow day here in our town. Ok, not so much snow but certainly ice was a factor. After having the weekend off, the kids got an extended weekend. This made everyone but Zane pretty happy. Zane was all geared up for exams this week… so missing a day was not in his planning of the week. Tuesday was a full day of school, but certainly even that was iffy with the back roads being as horrible as they were, and Wednesday and Thursday found us on half days because of High School exams. And today is Friday… another day off for the kids (but not the teachers), so essentially, my kids went to school all of two whole days this week. Makes it tough to get things done around the house for sure!

I read a great article on Yahoo this week called “A day for the little guy” talking about a man who decided to boost the economy of some of the struggling businesses in his town. I loved the article so much, that I wanted to try it here as well. He talked about having a FLASH MOB, but instead termed it CASH MOB and sent an email to 40 of his friends telling them to meet at the local hardware on a certain day and spend at least $20 in that establishment.  His friends took the initiative to then forward that email to their friends and so on. In the article (just click the link and read it), it goes on to say what a great day it turned out to be, not only for the hardware store, but for everyone involved as they were able to see people in the store that day that they hadn’t seen in some time.

So, tomorrow, we all will converge on a local book store here. I send an email, and posted it on my facebook page, and it has been going around the internet ever since. I am excited to see what is going to happen with this, and with the help and encouragement from my friends Cheri and Beth, we are going to pick a different business each month. SO excited! Cannot wait to share more with you on next weeks wrap up!

I decided this week that I had to get some work done… serious work! I sat in my office studio for 3 days working on 18 of the cutest shadow boxes, and LOVED the results!

I am hoping to get these into my Etsy shop this weekend yet… wish me luck!

Since taking stock of all the supplies I have around here, I am determined to get even more done! I have 7 canvas ready to paint on, though 2 of those are for a custom order I need to get sent out on Monday. I also want to start on that pile of paperbag albums since my Etsy supply of those is seriously dwindling. I love being creative! I came across a quote one day that sums it up ~ “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope the at I would not have a single bit of talent left, and I could say ‘I used everything you gave me.’ ” ~ Erma Bombeck

Again this week there was no interest in my craft classes. So today, on top of everything else I have to get done, I am going to create a display to bring up to the studio to try to create some interest. If I could ask this of each of you… please pray for my classes, I would appreciate it!

I really enjoyed my yoga class last night. I kind of felt like a bit of an outsider though… like the last kid picked for kick ball. Not sure why I felt that way though many of the women in this weeks class all attend the same church, so maybe that was it. The only problem I had last night was that I kept having a muscle spasm in my right leg. Hard to stand on one leg when it is trembling so!

This brings us to today. How do I have news to report for the day when it is only 9:00 am? Well, because first I am not loving on my husband’s new promotion. He is the GO-TO guy now, which means phone calls from each of the guys in his charge. And today’s phone call came in at 3:23 am. Usually they call his cell phone, but this time they called the home phone. Yeah… (that was sarcasm in case you were wondering). Also, Dareck and I had a little argument about the late night phone calls this week. He keeps his cell on the nightstand. When it rings, it is loud because I think my husband is deaf. For some reason, he has to swing his legs over the edge of the bed, stand up, and then search for his phone which means it usually rings about 3 times before he answers it and takes it to the living room to chat. I simply said, “I dont know why you have to get out of bed first before you answer it. Can’t you just grab it to stop it ringing and then take care of business?” He said, “Fine, I will do that, but know I will then carry on the conversation right in the bedroom.” And I am not kidding when I say, that is exactly what he did at 3:23 this morning. MEN!

On another MEN! moment… I woke up at 7:00 this morning and walked out to the living room to see some Halloween cut-outs on my front porch. Why is this strange? Because last time I saw these cut-outs, they were in the basement of my cousins house in another state. Upon further inspection I realized my cousin was also sitting out on the front porch. Don’t you love unexpected company? Oh, what… more sarcasm? This is going to be a LONG weekend! Wish me luck all!

Hope you all had a wonderful week and are gearing up for an amazing weekend!

Thanks go Jennifer over at The Conversion Diary for letting me link up to her blog party today!
