7 Quick Takes: January 20, 2012 (Vol. 64)

This new year is throwing me for a loop… I thought last year went by too quickly! UGH! What I am feeling is completely blessed by  is that my life is pretty busy, and I am totally good with all that! Monday of course found me at the school for the Reading Prize Cart. I know I have said it a thousand times, but I just adore our Elementary school kids! Well, most of them… not the little punk who stole my boys transformer toys from his locker – which he shouldn’t have brought to school in the first place! So, Keegan got a detention for bringing toys to school, which he has been talked to about by not only me, but his teacher as well on many occassions. Though said punk was in school on Monday, which leads me to believe his punishment for stealing was not ANOTHER suspension. Kind of feel bad for the kid, as it is obvious by this appearence and behavior, someone at home is not giving him the attention he needs.

Our Cub Scout Pack meeting was a BLAST on Monday night! My husband even said that outside of the big events we put on, this was by far the best meeting he has attended! Lots of boys received awards and recognition, which was awesome. The Tigers showed us some amazing Magic Tricks, the Bears did a funny skit, as did our Webelo group, and those Wolves, they rocked that Color Guard Flag ceremony as if they have been doing it for years!

The weather finally decided to turn frightful! We have WINTER! About darn time… my poor plants outside were starting to bud and grow with all this 40*-50* weather we have had for most of the winter so far! It got pretty yucky out on the roads, and thankfully we were able to make it to the dentist for our appointment on Tuesday afternoon. Plows were not out right away, which allowed much of the rain that came before the snow to really set into ice and yuck! We decided that drum lessons for the evening would have to be postponed for another night. I was NOT going to venture out again after coming home from the dentist. And all the snow dances in town going on were not enough to have a snow day on Wednesday morning. Boohiss… my kids were disappointed, especially since the next town over called off school for the day.

Suffice it to say I am a bit discouraged about my class schedule up at the Tawas Bay Performing Arts center! This is the second week of classes and I just have ONE person who has registered for my classes, and she and her group are not interested in any of the upcoming classes. Though she is excited to participate in some of the classes I am offering in February, so that is a plus. REALLY… I am going to teach some cool classes friends! Next week I am slated to do some upcycled jewelry boxes with funky fun animal prints with fluff and bling for my morning class and a flowered headband making class for the afternoon slot. If you are local, be sure to check out all the fun that is going on up at TBPA!

Keegan is digging on his Drum lessons so far, and I took my first YOGA class last night! Whoohoo!

Hold onto your panties friends… I have actually done up several What to Do Wednesday features this week and am going to schedule them onto my blog so they will be there BRIGHT AND EARLY on Wednesday mornings for you! LOVED doing the upcycled t-shirts and have one more of those to run next week. I also have 4 more projects prepped and ready to finish for even more upcoming features! YEAH ME!

Thursday I was able to get over to see my tax preparer. We do lots of deductions, so she slated me in for a two hour appointment… but really, she is a fun gal and a good friend, so much of that time was spent dishing on life in general! LOL! This is the first year she has done my taxes herself… usually her husband prepares them for us, but her hubby is now her EX-hubby and not doing taxes anymore… another thing we dished about!  Overall, we are very happy with how things turned out for us again this year… if you have a deep distain for tax time, try starting your own business. Since I didn’t make a lot on my Etsy shop, but still used supplies, I was able to deduct much of my purchases. Hey, don’t ever undercut yourself when it comes to taxes… so many of us miss some pretty basic deductions because you may not want to deal with a long form. As long as you track your expenses, it behooves you to file long form.

Baby, it is COLD outside! Whew… like take your breathe away cold! This morning the bank said MINUS 2*F…

buu…buu….buu…buu…buu… BRRRRR! Even now it is only about 14*F at 1pm in the afternoon… makes a person wish that we were like bears, stuffing ourselves and hybernating for a few weeks!
